Adam Reitzel

Adam M. Reitzel, Ph.D., is the associate dean for research and graduate education in the Klein College of Science. He is a professor of biological sciences and served as the graduate program director for the department prior to advancing to this administrative role. He also serves as the co-director for the Center for Computational Intelligence to Predict Health & Environmental Risks, CIPHER. Reitzel earned his doctorate in biology from Boston University in 2008.

The research conducted in the Reitzel lab examines the evolution and ecology of marine and terrestrial invertebrates to explore the mechanisms for how organisms acclimate and adapt to their environments. They seek understanding of these areas using comparative genomics, molecular biology, population genetics, evolutionary ecology, and field studies.

In 2024, Reitzel received the First Citizens Bank Scholar Award, which recognizes outstanding scholarship, creativity, and research among senior full-time faculty members. He also served as the Faculty Fellow of Grant Writing in the UNC Charlotte Graduate and Postdoctoral Writing Center. Reitzel was recongnized with the Harshini V. de Silva Graduate Mentor Award in 2022 for academic and professional development of graduate students.
